I have a 10 gallon tank with an emporer 280 filter on it now, would a hob refugium be necessary or am I just wasting my time? I found a 200gph filter on craigslist I could turn into one and I have a coralife mini light I could set on top of it. Just wondering if it'd be worth it.

It is VERY easy and inexpensive to modify a HOB power filter into a fuge, at least it was for the filter I have. It probably took me less than 2 hours overall to modify mine (including some probs I had).

Can you supply the model you are looking to purchase?

I'm still a noob, but I feel for a small tank with little room for a "true" fuge", a DIY HOB one would be a great way to keep nitrate levels low.

I would say that any addition to your filtration is beneficial and worth it - especially if you have the extra parts to assemble it!!!

Marineland biowheel 200 its for sale in my home town for 8 dollars. So I don't think I can pass it up. Only thing is it may be to much flow for my 10g.

some HOB's like the aquaclears have impellers that are interchangeable. you might be able to change the flow rate to better suit your tank.

The biowheel doesn't have enough room for a fuge, I think.

Even if you don't use it for a fuge I wouldn't pass it up.

Well if I end up with it, I'll give measurements. If I remove all the stuff inside y'all don't think it would work?

People use the Aquaclear filters since they have a larger than normal area to put algae in. I don't know if the Biowheel is as big.

How much does the cheato need? Also if it works, pods won't crawl over the top since the lid won't be on the filter will they? Sounds like a dumb question bc I'm sure they can't survive out of the water just making sure...
