HOB refugium

    So i just got a Auqaclear 30 and im thinking about turning it into a refugium, i know a lot of people do this with the Auqaclears but my only real question is does there need to be a seperate light above it for the chaeto or will just my tank light work?

    I ask because my tank is in my bedroom and i don't really want a light on all night while i sleep.

    Really just depends on whether or not the light is getting to the chaeto. I have a background on my tank and doubt light from the fixture would get into a HOB filter. If thats the case then just get a little clip light and run it during the day so it doesnt bother you.

    I run my light on the refugium during the day 6am to 10 pm
    my dt lights are on 9 hours - it seems to work for me - I know one of the main reasons for a refugium is to help stabilize ph during the night tho. so not sure I am using it for all it can be.
    My cheto is growing great and a big reason my DT is looking good
