I know this has been asked before but my HOB skimmer is producing a lot of bubbles in the tank and I need to know how to stop this. I believe the solution most agreed upon last time this was discussed was to put a filter sock over the return. Any advice/opinions/knowledge welcome! Thanks in advance, I'll be back in a couple hours to check what everyone recommends.

you could also add a prefilter box around the pump, I don't think this would stop the bubbles form being made, but I think it will prevent them from entering the actual tank.

The bubbles need to be made, it is an intergral part of skimming. I just want to prevent them from going into the tank. Your on the right path, I'll have to look into it. Thanks!

Any other suggestions? Anyone else use the filter sock method??

I've been using a filter sock on the 125 with good results.

I was thinking that you were one of the people on here that said it works. Do you ever need to change it (example: does it ever get clogged up)? Any other advice you could give me on it? I know it will look kinda bad but it will be better than it looks now with all the bubbles. Can't wait till I can throw it in the sump or something else that will be added in the future:p! Thanks Bogie, +6 your way! Of course, any other advice/experience would be appreciated!

I just picked up some more today. They cost $1 to $1.75 at one of the LFS I go to - it depends on who rings me up. It's not so expensive, so I'll just put a fresh one on every 2 weeks. Or do it whenever you happen to have the lights and lid out of the way on that side of the tank. I guess they can be rinsed out and re-used, but I'm not going to bleach them or use soap or anything like that.

Can you give me some more info about the filter sock. The LFS didn't know. At one point I thought my skimmer wasn't working. Duh! But it wasn't turned up enough. When its turned up, obviously, I get tons of bubbles. Is the sock something I buy or make? Sorry, there's so much to learn!!!!!

Just watch how dirty the filter sock gets. I have a small one on the return of my skimmer and I have to clean it twice weekly at present.
