Just like the title says... is it possible to put a HOB skimmer into a sump?

Specifically the Super Reef Octopus LX1000s?

If so what would I need to do to make it safe. I am new to sumps so all help is appreciated :)

You could definitely hang it on the sump, on one fo the compartments with a steady water level. If it's in the sump itself, it might get flooded.

Absolutely. I plan on hanging my AquaC Remora on the back of my 10g sump/fuge once I get the 75g set up. That way I can get the unsightly pump out of the display tank.

my ultra noob question though is how?

the skimmer i have has a surface skimmer and don't most sump/ fuge's have a traditionally lower water level to compensate for excess water in case of power failure?

Can't you just remove the surface skimmer part? Because you are using a sump with some kind of overflow, you don't need the surface skimmer (you are already surface skimming with the overflow).

no, the surface skimmer is built into the lip of the skimmer box. However the lip looks like i have about 4 inches of wiggle room in overall adjustment.

I was looking at the Eshopps RS 75 and the Aqueon proflex 1.

You would have to have the water level in sump high enough for water to get to the surface skimmer. As long as you can occomodate for that it will work fine.
