Here comes the age old question once again. I am setting up a 90 Gal and just tossed my crappy Seaclone 150 in the garbage, I had it given to me, the guy must hate me or something! I want to know what the best choice for a HOB skimmer is. I would like something with a large collection cup, some means of containing an overflow if possible (I also own a Coralife), and can also be used in sump if need be. I have heard good things about the Aqua C and the AquaMedic Turboflotor caught my eye. Any suggestions?

I used the aqua c on my 75 once and I was not too impressed with it. I only used it with the maxi jet tho. My Er rs100 in sump blew the aqua c outa the water. Those are the only 2 skimmers I have ever owned. But I would not get the aqua c with the maxi jet for sure, cannot say nothing about the turboflotor. Just my 2 cents ;D

There are no really good HOB skimmers for a 90 gallon.
That's like asking "which dump truck gets good gas mileage?"

+1. If anything maybe an octopus BH-300 series? But a 90 really needs a proper sump IMHO.

Hijack.. what about running an HOB in a sump?
I have the coralife I mentioned above running in my sump on my 125.
The only reason is becuase I got it really cheap.

My CPR bakpak has a hard time keeping my 75g tank clean. It skims good and I clean it everyday, but my nitrates are still high. I use RO/DI water I do water changes every 2 weeks and I don't overffed yet I can't get away from about 25ppm in nitrates. Im over chasing zero since im about 90% done with my 125 build which will use a nice sump/fuge and a ASMg3 skimmer.
