Those of you who use an HGB on your overflow, when you submerge the the air line tubing, does the water level start to quickly go down? I just built one and after tuning it the overflow, I added a couple extra gallons to the display tank and the air line tubing submerged, but it didn't appear to make a siphon to me. The water level balanced out a couple minutes later, but it took a lot longer than I expected and it makes me a little worried. Maybe I need to seal the tubing to the cap a little better.

Do you mean the top of the airline tubing was completly submerged so no air can get in?

The point of the top air line tubing is to inject air into the draining water to reduce the the noise of the overflow by breaking the siphon created by a submerged overflow.

BUT it serves a 2nd purpose. You can set the end of that hose to your desired maximum water height. When water covers the opening, it can no longer pull any air, and it creates a full siphon and increasing the maximum flow of the drain greatly.

What worry's me is that when the drain is under full siphon, it doesn't seem to drain that much faster.
