I was looking at my Blue Hippo Tang and it looks like it has a small hole on the right side of its body! The ring of the "hole?" is somewhat light in color. I cannot tell if it is ick or something else. I can tell that the Tang is becoming stressed because it is starting to show symptoms of ick. Nothing in the tank has changed, except for I did a dose of red slime control on Saturday. Would this cause such a problem? I will try to post some picks as soon as I get my camera from my girlfriend later tonight.

Sounds like it might be HLLE. How old is your tang, how long have you had it, and what have you been feeding it?

    +another one on the HLLE.

Tangs need a good amount of vegetable diet to remain healthy.

The tang is about 4 inches in length and I have had it for about two months. I feed frozen mysis and brine shrimp soaked in garlic. I then feed a piece of nori soaked in garlic every day as well. The "hole" in question is located behind the right fin. If it is HLLE, what should I do?

From what I understand, brine has no nutritional value. I highly recommend Rod's food if you can get it. Tangs need algae. Feed them a small piece of nori every other day. Nori is basically a sheet of seaweed used for making suhi. You can get it cheap at an Asian market if you have one nearby. They also sell it at LFSs for about 10x the price. Clip a small piece to your glass and the tangs will eventually go for it. It may take them a while. Some people feed romaine lettuce or broccoli instead.

What do you and anyone else that reads this think about Formula 2? I just picked some up and it has much more ingredients ie clam, mussels, etc. and is fortified with vitamin c.

I like the formula flakes. Personally, I use a pinch of formula 1 and 2 flakes and some formula 2 pellets soaked in 4-5 drops (each) of garlic and selcon. That is on top of daily nori for grazing, and meaty frozen foods a few times a week (the stuff my sun polyps miss).
