    Good Morning.

As the holidays are upon us, I was wondering what you'all do with regards to feeding while on vacation? Hopefully most have relatives to check on our tanks, but for those who don't...

I have a FOWLR (65 gal.), 2 Osc. percs, a Dottyback gramma and what I call a 'rock fish'. (local waters here, similar to a blenny I think). Anyway all carnivores for the most part. Should I invest in a timed release device? Pyramid feeders? Would enjoy everyones experience. ;D

Haven't gone on vacation yet, but I am only going to have them fed once during that time. And I am going to have it premeasured for the sitter. You could let them go all week and they would be fine. Two weeks may require a feeding apparatus, with which I have no experience.

If you feed dry foods, you could use one of those automatic timers and set it for every other day. If they eat frozen foods, then you will need a sitter than you can trust, and make sure your dogs don't unplug the wall socket plugs. (inside joke when someone here said his sitter said the dog unplugged the tank)

If the tank is mature it will be ok to just let them pick around in the tank for a few days and eat left overs.

I'm an airline pilot. I have the Rondamatic that feeds while I'm gone. Aquarium Automatic Feeders: Rondomatic 400
Works great.. you can put about anything in there. I use flakes, wafers, and tie some seaweed around a rock with a rubber band. It can feed once a day for 28 days or however you program it up to 3 times a day. I feed the day I leave and then the auto feed skips a day after...

I have this auto top off that works great too:
Aquarium Maintenance & Plumbing: Auto Top Off Controller
If leaving a week or more I would just pay someone to come in.

I have someone house sit. Except the last guy had my do run away had the skimmer in the tank have the airline shutoff so the tank had no skimmer and got an algae bloom. and the list only starts there! I vote get an auto feeder. I will before I go to belize in 2 months.
