About 3 weeks ago I bought a bottle of live pods from the LFS. I've been emptying about a third of the bottle into the tank at night over these 3 weeks. I figured that my 6line and other fishes would love a little treat as I haven't seen any pods in my tanks for months. I don't how many of you use canister filters, but I do and I was not really prepared for what I saw tonight when I was doing my monthly cleaning maintenance. When I opened that sucker up, it was like I was breeding who knows how many of these suckers. I assume the ones I saw are amphipods since I could actually see them fairly easily. They were big and kind of look like shrimp of sorts.

What do I do with pods? Is it bad to have too many? Should I try to clean them out? Obviously not many if any are be sucked by the return back into the tank. I guess it makes sense that among other things, a canister filter could make a ideal breeding environment for pods. I just never considered it.

So uh...yeah I have a canister as well... mind sharing what media you are using? lol
I have no idea how you'd harvest them out of the filter without making a mess in your tank though.

I'm using Chemi-Pure Elite, De*Nitrate and ceramic rings. I forget what the brand name of the live pods were that I used (threw the bottle away already). I don't think that matters as long as they are live. I don't think there is a way to harvest pods out of a canister without making a big ol' mess. Shaking the media off in the tank would just drop in some unwanted detrius.
