I was thinking about getting a clear plastic tube about 1 1/2" in dia. cutting a few holes in the bottom to run airlines through. If I add another airline and stone, then fill the tube up with crushed coral. Will it be just a waste of time, or will this act a a place where beneficial bacteria to grow?

probably gunna be a waste of time. if you have sufficient rock and substrate you will get the same effect with zero effort.

Extra biological filtration on top of live rock seems like a thing of the past in reef keeping.

Thanks for the responses. does anyone know a better way to run airlines so that they are less visible?
