I have always been partial to the East End of Grand Cayman, unfortunately the divelodge was destroyed by hurricane Ivan and to my knowlede has not been rebuilt yet.
If you do end up in Hawaii, Molokini crater is a popular dive from Maui, but the daytrip to Lanai is worth it! If you do go to Lanai ask about the Cathederal 1 & 2 dive sites. :cowboy:

The one suggestion I will make is this, if you are not already certified, please find a local dive shop and get certified before you go, you will get far superior instruction :book2: compared to any resort course you might take while on your honeymoon, because no matter how safe diving is these days its still dangerous, so the more you can educate yourself in preparation the better.

    PS. CONGRATULATIONS :)

I loved Hawaii when i went. i didnt go diving but on a snorkeling cruise to the crater and turtle town. as far as snorkeling it shows you not all the sea life. i would rather go scubadiving and you get a closer veiw of everything. I would go to maui or kaui cause oahu is a mad house but kaui is a little more peaceful.

Belize, not much to it other than diving (actually very crappy and poor on land). and if I remember correctly has more than half of all the atols in the atlantic. for the sole purpose of diving though it is amazing.

I'm going to have to agree with both Mike and Telgar on locations and Telgar on getting certified. If you're not already, do yourself a favor and get certified.

I've dove the Keys, Hawaii, Cozumel, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Grand Cayman. IMO, Cozumel is the easy favorite for the money. Flights into Cancun are cheap, as is the transportation and ferry ride to the island. I think the best dives in Cozumel are the wall dives, but they do have some serious current, and are not recommended for beginners. For the diversity and quantity of fish, I don't mind Cancun though(even cheaper). Granted, the reefs and invert life aren't nearly as good in Cancun, but if you're more interested in seeing a lot of fish, that might not be a bad option.

Grand Cayman is amazing, but pretty expensive. I have only dove the east end, so can only comment on it. The diversity in avaiable, nearby dives is incredible, which makes it really nice as they are able to pick the best ones based on the actual wind and current. Other than Ocean Frontiers (Scuba Diving Adventures & Dive Vacations - East End, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands - Ocean Frontiers Home Page) I don't recall there being any other dive operators. There probably are, but I don't know of them.

    Good luck and congratulations!

I have been diving in a couple places, Fiji, and Rincon Puerto Rico, but I can say that anything in the Pacific is much better than anywhere in the Caribbean.

Of all the places to dive in the Caribbean, Rincon has been called the most under rated diving in the Caribbean. I went diving with several friends of my Brother's and they are from Florida and dive all the time. Everyone said that the diving we had in PR was by far the best of anywhere in the Caribbean as well.

Now Fiji, no comparison, but that is a whole different league IMHO.

I have yet to go to Hawaii, but my SO has many times as her parents own a place on the beach on the big island. She really likes diving in Hawaii, but even she said Hawaii is nothing compared to Fiji. That is probably our next dive destination, as she loves it there, and it is so close compared to Fiji or or other south pacific destinations.

Also, if you are not certified, it might eb wise to get that done here, at least all the book work. Diving and learning on a short time frame is not always the best. And taking intro to diving dives where you don't need any training is a bit of a waste IMHO. Do the book work and pool dives before you go, and you can enjoy yourselves more when you get there. JM2 pennies.
