buy a test kit, and once the test results are zero, take the filter media out, as far as placement goes, i would personally reccommend the canister filter

Alright guys it has been a while, I finally have time to get some pics up of my tank. It is One year and 10 days old today. I keep a mixed reef (mostly LPS) 50 corals or so, 6 fish, a CBS, 1 pepperment (used to be 3, lost two to the CBS) 2 sand sifting stars and a myriad of snails and hermits. I've changed my original setup a little, i now have a 55 gal. refugium and took the 250 W. metal halide out. Over the past year i have acumulated most of my corals from crashed tanks and frags. A lot of ppl would say not to take in dying corals because of disease issues but eveything has healed very well and no disease spred to any other corals(knock on wood). In the past year I have lost 2 corals and 3 fish. First coral I lost was a euphilla anchora frag that was already in bad shape when i got it. The second was a red Goniopora still not sure what species, lost this one because lack of avalibe small particulate food (i believe) it slowly died over about 2 months. First fish i lost was a Gramma Loreto jumped out and i found him too late. Second was a Zebrasoma veliferum about 2 inches bough it in the bag from the LFS that got it in that day and had not even aclimated it to their system (after 3 days i found him sucked up against my Korilla 4 circ pump). 3rd was a Acanthurus pyroferus this one upsets me the most because i really liked this fish, basicly it just stopped eating for me after 3 or 4 weeks of doing fine (also my Naso Vlamingi bullied it around quite a bit). so here are the pics i have of my losses R.I.P.

Next is my Naso Vlimingi she absolutly loves getting her picture taken or maybe she just caznt stand me paying attention to the other tank inhabitants. She is probably the most inteligent animal in the tank, eats from my hand, and she grows outrageously fast. I have still not found out what the issue with her lateral line is. The tank is grounded by a grounding probe and a Titanium heater. I also feed a vast variety of food such as nori, calurpa, Mysis, and Formula II(also soak at least one meal a day in Vitachem). She has had the lateral line issue since i got her when she was only about 1 1/2 inches. It does not seem to bother her but it is getting bigger as she grows. If anyone has any info on what this might be plz let me know.

Next is the Signus Magnificus. She has great color and can hang with the Vlimingi bullying her. the naso kind of learned her lesson the first time she got a big mouthfull of poisonous spikes. Although she is very beautiful looks arent everything, she is pretty dumb contenuously rubbing against stinging coral and eating other fishes feces all the time. Her name is Magnolia. ohh yeah and the naso's name is nitro.
