thats very interesting well they say survival of the fittest so maby thats a key to keeping the coral reefs and oceans alive since a lot is being destroyed or dying off

Bruce--I know that this is the other end of what you were posting---but have you had a chance to watch the movie/documentary "Coral Adventure?" I found it very enlightening and interesting. To me it brought another meaning to the phrase Global Community.

I am trying the best I can to get our local club at least somewhat interested in raising conservation awareness and the threats that our reefs face---but so far nobody is really interested. I think it is partly because the topic is brought up and they automatically think of global warming and over fishing and then think that the endangered species list will cure everything.

I am open to any suggestions if you have any.

I've seen it, it's good. They are trying to save and reconstruct the fiji reef, or atleast a portion that has been wiped out due to water temps or something like that. Mangroves killing reefs, etc.

Yeah, that's the one. Water temps are only part of the problem that they find, though. No, it is not the mangroves that is killing the reefs, rickzter. It is people cutting down the rainforests, water temps, air pollution, global warming, siltation, etc. Very interesting stuff.

Yes, infact mangroves are saving the reefs...is there is a mangrove...grove at the mouth of a river filled with silt that heads out to the ocean and mangroves suck it all up vs rivers that flow into the ocean without mangroves
