Definitely hair algae. And the 2nd to last photo does look like a sponge.
If you use the 'search this forum' link below the page index on this board and search for 'hair algae' you will find plenty of info. Good luck! It's a tough fight. I've been through it. It takes time.

The second to last phot could also be a foram, I just recently learned about them, They came in on my live rock apparently. But I dont know if thats what you have for sure cause the pic is blurry.

    Here is a link about them..Foraminiferans by Ronald L. Shimek, Ph.D. - Reefkeeping.com

Here are pics of mine, they are still kinda blurry from the surface agitation

If i attempted to clean it will it throw my tank off it has been cycling for about 3 weeks now my ammonia is low my nitrites is high or should i wait for the tank to finish cycling before taking on this task
    Thanks

the afro rock are definatly hair algae :D. do u have any cleaning crew in your tank? snails, blue leg hermits, anything to clean ur tank? if u dont i suggest u go buy some cause they will help controlling the algea. it had happen to me before, i didnt have enough snails and hermits in my tank and the algae went out of control. im not saying having those will eliminate the algae completely but it will sure help alot. if u dont have a blenny u might consider getting one of those too. and also keep this in mind when green hair algae get 5mm+ long hermits dont really bother eating them, take out the rock(s) scrub it with a old tooth brush and rinse them with salt water only.
    good luck

In a new, cycling tank, the last thing you need to do is scrub live rock clean. By doing so, even if you clean the rock in salt water, you will kill off a lot of bacteria that you have paid dearly for and set your cycle back a few weeks. Hair algae in a new tank is perfectly normal and if you keep your water parameters in check, it should go away on its own in due time.

I would wait until the cycle is over ammonia and nitrites come to zero before you need to deal with this.

What you can do is pull it out by hand. I usually get a small pail of RO/DI water. I will pull the hair algae out and put it in the RO/DI,(this will rinse your fingers) do it for as long as you can and then do it some more the next day. and so on.

Once your tank is cycled you will get some snails crabs. they will help but could never deal with the amount you have.

But don't sweat it this is normal.
