Hopefully solved heat problem

I did a little work today on my heat problem. I don't know if it is going to solve the problem, but it won't hurt. I bought a ceiling vent from Home Depot that pushes 50 cfm and vented it up into the attic. It is one of the type that is used to vent a small bathroom. I put a self closing vent in attic so when it is off nothing tries to come down the vent. Used 3" flex tube, cut holes in the shelves and vented through the cieling. I cut a 4" hole on the left side of the enclosure to suck in air from the closet on the other side (wife was thrilled, its hers) and I will be putting some sort of fan to help bring air in and around. Not sure if it will work, but it looks good, quiet too.

 

Nice!! the air movement should help remove some of the heat.

lmajor, not a bad mod! Looks goood. You can try installing the fan on the opposite side to push air to the vent. I think it'll actually work! Keep us posted on your findings.

 

Talk about a cool DIY. very smart, i think it should work, like rickzter said put the fan on the other side to push air to the vent. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks. Yes, my plan is to get a small fan on the other side to suck air in, juast haven;t found one yet. It does a pretty good job keeping temps stable. I think it will work very well when I get the other fan in. any ideas of where to get a small fan that doesn;t use much juice?

FYI, I have algae everywhere!!! brown/green slime on the rocks, glass, etc. Will this subside at some point?

 

I would use a computer fan. some are big enough and push allot of air without using to much volts.

As for the algae, it could probebly help but it also depends on allot of other stuff. tank age, water params, filtration the list goes on... give us some info on your tank that way it will be easier to help you out. Add it to your sig, that way we can see it everytime you post.

Can you buy computer fans that plug into a regular plug? Any ideas where to get it?

FYI - My algae is gone!!! I used a makeup brush to clean it off the rocks every couple days for about a week and bought 3 turbo snails, it is not coming back.

 

Radio Shack has the fans they work on 110v you may just have to put a plug on the end, you can get the plug at home depo

I got 3 about a month ago and so far so good. These are the ones I have turning on and off with my lights. The clip won't work on a 46 or 75 gal but seem to fit fine on others. Such as a fuge. Then again you could mount it to anything. There are many others. Just do an ebay search on aquarium fan.
