horse conch in a fish tank?

    my friend bought what was labled horse conch. i think they are predatory if im not mistaken. its about an inch and a half and has a pink foot.how predatory are they? can it go in a fowlr tank? how bout a reef?

    They eat other snails and grow to 24". They also eat hermits.

    yeah, it has to be called "horse" conch for something..

    It gets to be about 2 feet long, with a width of 10 inches, the Florida horse conch is the mother of the snail world. It is the largest snail on the Atlantic Coast and I think one of the largest found anywhere in the world.

    Next time I see one snorkeling I'll take a few pics. They are big, orange and usually found eating other conchs.

    Yeah, even if he is one of the other fasciolariid species, and not the giant one, he'll still probably get pretty big, and will be an effective mollusc predator. I don't know how often they eat other things, but traps baited with fish may attract them... As WT says, they prefer true conchs (strombids), which the horse conchs aren't. They are in the Tulip family.
