My horseshoe crab is overgrowing my tank. I knew this would happen sooner or later. My question is how much would you pay for one? Currently I'm in Savannah, Ga and there is only ONE LFS in the area, so they overcharge like a mofo. That being said, I was going to call and negotiate for store credit, but I don't want to get ripped off. What are your thoughts?

I sell them for $14.99. Since I give customers 50 percent credit on trade-ins, that would be $7.50.

My experience was similar in UK
providing the life form you took back was judged to be in perfect health
you could achieve 50% of the normal retail value in store credit

same deal with fish and corals

Out of curioustity how big was it when you got it, how big is it now & how long did it take to grow? I've always liked horsehoe's but they seem to get mixed reviews.

    TO HORSESHOE CRABS!!!

They get big very fast. They're too stupid for words. They are from parts of the ocean where there's tons of sand and little rock and they don't do well in reef aquariums which is little sand and tons of rock.

Leonard from the World Aquarium at the City Museum used to take them in to be sandsifters in the shark tank when they outgrew customers aquariums. I don't even order them unless a customer special orders one and has an aquarium that can handle one.

I think you misread me. I was asking about the growth rate out of curiousity not out of purchase potential.

My personal research said the same thing. Without a big open tank they are a no-no.

it's funny to see vendor opinions vary too. Springfield I got one hell of a sells pitch while over at sea-scape I got a matching opinion to yours, but they do carry them.
