Anybody have anytype of luck with horseshoe crabs?

I am trying to plan the livestock I want in my new tank, which means I am having to get rid of many of my old fish during the transfer (many have become coral nippers...foxface, yellow tang...or I am wanting something that will not play well together). Unfortunately, most of the fish that I am getting rid of, belong to my nieces and nephew (that dont even live with me ;D) but they absolutely love regardless. They have gradually accepted the idea, with the knowledge that they are going to get to come and buy new fish once new tank is ready.

HOWEVER, they all had this one horseshoe crab named Blitzen that they adore. They ask about it everytime I speak to them. The LFS guys let them hold it, they saw real ones on vacation, and it quickly became their FAVORITE. Both guys told them that 1. they hide a lot, so they will not see him much, and 2. they do not have a very long lifespan. Blitzen 1 lasted about 1 month, so Blitzen 2 came to be. I have not seen Blitzen 2 in months, so I know he is gone. The kids are convinced that he is just hiding and that when I move to the new tank he will magically reappear (they still think it is Blitzen 1).

They only seem to remember the first part of what the LFS guys said, that they hide. So, now that I am getting rid of all their fish, I have a feeling I will be on the lookout for a bigger Blitzen the 3rd so he can magically appear when they come to see my tank.

But, does anybody have luck out there keeping these things. I really would like to keep it. I did try to spot feed mine when I would see it pieces of krill and whatever. He would try to take it, but not the most coordinated beast ever. I feed Rods food, use variety of coral foods by H2O, marine snow, phytopheast, artic pods, clams, and just a variety of other things, so there should be enough food for him?
