My blue hippo has a ton of white spots...and one eye looks cloudy...
I want to quarantine it and to treat with copper, antibiotic and hyposalinity....

How can I do a quick emergency setup.
I have a 10 gallon plastic bing with lid...

I know to use my main tank water...
I have an air pump and stone...
I have pvc pipe for hiding...
and I have a large sponge that's in my wet dry filtration sump area...
it separates the drip system from the sump with my other pumps...
    I clean it bi-weekly...

How can I use that sponge to keep my quarantine from cycling?
Can I just stick it in the 10 gallon, and add the air stone and pump?

    Help!

    Ich

You should still do a water change every other day in the quarentine tank. The sponge is not enough bacteria on it. Probably 5 gallons every other day to prevent ammonia

DO NOT USE COPPER!!!!!!! it is incredibly toxic to everything in your aquarium and is very deadly to fish.

can i just raise the temp. in my main tank to 84 degrees and use kordon ich attack...
and forget the whole quarantine thing?!
I'm looking for least cumbersome with my already rigid double shift going on this week.
(not that my fish aren't important, cause they are... I just have to be realistic while I'm on my own)

PS i have a flower pot coral... inverts and fish listed in my signature below

    Ich

I would not use any ich product in your main tank

raising the temp may be enough by itself, i wouldn't medicate the tank though, just because there's a fish with ich doesn't mean the others will get it, i don't want to sound like the quarantine police or anything but if you kept the quarantine running all the time with a light bioload this wouldn't be an issue for you now.

Get a skunk shrimp or two. They will keep all the ich and other parasites right off the tangs. A good offense is a great defense

Even a reef safe one that's organic...?
ich attack by kordon claims to be...
My problem is that I think the white spots are so plentiful...
some may have already separated off and will look for a new host...
that means all fish could be a target...

can i just raise the temp... or do you think i need to just remove the affected hippo?

    i have a cleaner shrimp...
it didn't work on the blue hippo...
the yellow tang, 2 clowns, yellow head goby... fine
flame angel is showing signs of a few white spots....
the whole quarantine tank thing just won't work with my schedule right now... which is why I'm trying to come up with the most effective method for my situation...
the blue hippo's left eye is really cloudy

I read before of some people doing a "freshwater dip", where you put the sick fish in a container of fresh, not saltwater for ~5 minutes. Supposedly, its enough to kill all the parasites but not harm the fish. I have never personally tried it, so you may want to get advice first.
