It all depends on what was wrong and what medicines you use to cure the fish. I have a hospital/quarantine tank that consists of a 15 gallon, 15 gallons of water and a large sponge filter and nothing else.

I keep it running at all times and when there is fish in it I change water once a week. If I use medicine in it when done I MTY it, wash it out real good and refill it, oh yeah I replace the sponge filter with a new one. Real cheap and easy insurance policy that the next fish I buy wont catch anything from the last inhabitants.

You should quarantine any new fish you buy for a minimum of at least a week or 2
