    Hi Guys,

I finally got some more of my test kits in the mail today and did a full range of tests. Here is what I got when I tested:

    SG: 1.024
    Temp: 78.5
    Ammonia: 0ppm
    Nitrite: 0ppm
    Nitrate: 0ppm
    Alk: 11DKH
    Mag: 1180ppm
    Ca: 440ppm
    Phosphate: 0.5ppm

I was hoping to get 0 phosphates but that was a pipe dream since I am still using treated tap water. A RO/DI unit is the next thing on my wish list. Other that using RO water, is there anything I can do without getting complicated to bring those down? I still am letting my tank cycle a bit but was wondering if the other levels look okay. My plan is still for a FOWLR and a few inverts. Thanks for your time and advice!!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

Some options to bring down phosphates without RO/DI water:

    1) A refugium with a macroalgae to eat the phosphates
    2) A phosphate reactor with media (eg. phosban reactor with phosban or rowaphos)
    3) A phosphate sponge in your filter

Looks good. Do you have an LFS/Softie dominated tank, an SPS tank or a FOWLR? That would determine your Mg and Ca levels. Also, any clams?

    Thanks JJK,

My sump has a small refugium and I eventually plan on adding some macroalgae. I don't know that I want to purchase a phosphate reactor but the sponge filter might be something to look into. Thanks for the recommendations.

Mag is a minor tick low but other then the phosphate level looks good.

    Thanks PharmrJohn,

Right now I have a bunch of live rock :) My tank is about 5 weeks old and seems to be finishing its cycle. I am leaving to go on vacation in two weeks, and I want to wait until I get back before I add anything. I figure another couple of weeks of sitting won't hurt. My plan as of right now is just a FOWLR with a couple of inverts. Thanks!!!

Also if you didn't/can't run a phosban reactor, a phosphate sponge in a high flow area of the sump might help lower it down. Just pull it out when your level hits 0.
