Just thought I'd throw this out there-
My coworkers and I were talking about the cutbacks we all have to make to get through this latest economic downturn. The topic turned from the usual "no shopping", "no vacations", "no new car, TV, toys" etc... and it got me thinking. We give up the lifestyle we are used to, but how does one handle the frustration we all feel? You could scale back, stop spending on credit, hope for the best...or, drink more, get a prescription for Xanax, and stare vacantly into the fish tank until it's over! Seriously, how do YOU keep your spirits up? Who's got a positive suggestion for the ordinary person to get through all this?

I wish to all the fortunate luck that I am having and hope the very best to all who are affected but in my line of work we have not slowed down one bit. My job would have me there 24/7 if I could. I am feeling no effects but some in my family do and what we all do to keep spirits up is spend time with the family and kids. Best wishes to all.

I went and Bought a new ford last month to help out the ecomony some (which I never get to drive since im away), I bought a house last year, and I continue to spend money on things, within reason of course. (anything fish tank related basically) lol Im trying to do my part to help this country out, But still stay within in my budget comfortably.

I am in the same situation as scenario1313, My line of work hasnt slowed at all either, and I am very fortunate for that. And Hope that Things turn around very quickly for this country, Just hearing all the news about people loosing there jobs is pretty depressing sometimes.

I just drudge on and hope for the best. If I dwell in pitty cause I have to cut back then it does me no good so I just look for the good in the smallest things in life. Keep yourself occupied and the rest will fall into place one way or the other. I figured out early on that life suck and there is nothing I can do about it so I just make the best of what I got.

We are looking at a new vehicle for Mommy since it is a buyers market right now. I have been lucky enough to put myself in a profession that is in high demand.

To date I have chosen not to participate in the recession. Both my wife and I are fortunate to have jobs that won't be hit hard. We have made choices through our life to live on less than we make and we can pay our bills on one of our salaries. Because of that we don't have a beamer but do have peace of mind8). But to all of you out there who don't have a choice and got laid off, I feel for you. I have family/friends that are being affected, and you all will be in my prayers!!

I love the way you worded this... "participat" We too have decided not to participate in this recession as well. We both have a job in a company that will only get bigger as time goes on and we don't have any credit card debt and refuse to incur any.

Things are moving slow. I work in the auto industry and own a vehicle testing company. We are currently trying to get a foreign OEM on board for a 5yr contract, but who knows what will happen....Sucks right now.

I'm in the medical field, which isn't recession-proof, but secure for now. But my husband is out of work (he's a self-employed contractor), and we have friends that are out of work, moving away, etc. I think my neighborhood has more empty houses than occupied ones. We've lived here for 15 years, and IF we could even sell our house, we might get out of it what we bought it for. Michigan was not prepared for this! I am glad to see that my fellow reefers are surviving- when everything goes belly-up, maybe I can find a good home for my tank with some of you!
