I picked up one today for my ten gallon and it is very bright but it doesn't cover the whole tank so I need another. Im just worried that it would be too bright for moonlight, is this possible? I was thinking if it was too bright maybe I would just run them on a timer for about 2 hrs before and after my main lights. Tell me what you guys thinks. (there 3/4 watt if that matters)

I have 6 of them that are only one watt each on my 220 and they make it glow nicely. I cant imaging how one or two look on your tank.

Most moonlights are made in a spectrum that will not bother your fish. They are only for your viewing though so putting them on a timer will not hurt either. Some people think they can help the coral spawning process, so maybe put on a timer and leave one on all night.

ok cool, and its a reef only my other tank that has fish and corals have their own built in night lights but they don't compare to the brightness of these. I just didn't know if corals needed "sleep" for lack of a better word haha.

I have read that everything needs down time. I always left my lights on all night. I decided to turn them off for 6 hours a night. did what you said. Run them 2 hours before and after mains. I don't have any hard evidence, but my corals really seemed to respond. Witht he LEDs on my coral would not open at night. With them off, they all come out and turn inside out to feed. Pretty cool. I am of the school of though that is all for total darkness.

Uh, there isn't a full moon every night.. If you want to be serious you would only have the moon lights on like 4 days a months and off quite a bit and then subdued the rest of the month..

    Just a thought
