They breed by the female carrying her clutch of eggs attached to her pleopods and as the eggs hatch, she casts them into the water for them to begin their life as part of the ocean's plankton, meaning that it is highly unlikely that the larval crabs would survive a typical aquarium's filtration let alone find enough of the correct plankton food if they did by chance survive the filtration or being slammed into hard surfaces.

How do they copulate? Do they come out of their shells? Do they carry individual packets of egg/sperm to hand off to eachother?

Not sure, my emerald is all by its self, so it had to have "Got its nasty on" before I got it. :)

    LOL! Too funny!

I know it's a silly question but I do wonder as I have several blue legs in mine.

Tequila has nothin to do with crab breeding...I got crab's after a bottle of tequila and they bred without any feeding...they spread like a california widfire and all I had to do was wear tight jeans.....but tequila and candlelight wont wont help....unless you want small white flea lika crabs....put them in you tank and watch em go.....

They would have to come out of their shells partialy in order for the male to transfer his spermatophore to the female.
