I have just recently noticed small stringy hair algae, (i'm assuming thats what it is), in a couple areas of my tank and want to get rid of it before it becomes a problem? What have you done? ---- Could this be because of some algae leaving my fuge and flowing into the tank? If so, how do I keep it from leaving the fuge?

I also have a fuzzy algae build up around one of my zoa rocks which I attempted to lightly brush with a soft toothbrush which hasn't really worked. Any suggestions?

My other issue is between the detritus build up on stuff in the tank,(i.e. around the tubes of my green stars, the palm polyps) besides the rocks and stuff and the crap around the sand. I have black sand and want to maintain it without having to spot clean often. Any suggestions?

    Thank YOU in advance!!!

If you have detritus building up, it could be feeding the algae. Circulation is the best way to keep detritus from building up so that it can be exported thru the overflow into your sump/skimmer. Keeping it aloft in the water.

Black sand will never look nice and clean once it's been in your tank for a month. Ever.
I'll never go back to black sand!

I also have 2 solarmax h.o.'s on the top of the tank. 2 blues and 2 whites.

    I have a 20 high for a sump and a bubblemagus skimmer.

Looks like you are skimming too wet. The skimate should be darker then what I am seeing.8)
