i think they are ambush predators? so live fish or maybe they'll scavenge some shrimp. why the heck would you put a flounder in a reef tank? lol

Flounders are very aggressive eaters. I had several that actually stole food out of the shark's mouths. They are not going to eat Brine. They will eat Krill and silver sides. You can also go to an Asian market and get many types of seafood.

I don't know anyone who hasn't made an impulse purchase while entering this hobby so let's be careful in how we say things. With that said, we are responsible for any animal we take out of the wild. Researching care needs BEFORE purchase is a necessity. I'm not only speaking of the flounder....Sweetlips get HUGE. How big is your tank? Not only do you have to deal with the size issue, they are a challenging fish to say the least.

We owe it to ourselves as well as our progeny to not treat living animals the same as we treat something we bought at Walmart.

When I had a 55 African cichlid tank, I had one about an inch I caut . I did not feed him spacificly but he did well for two years, then I added a giant sucker and i think he ate it. Now I have a 4 gallon pico with 3 half inch ones, they love my sand.

But the message is still the same, I would go as far to say it's one of the most appropriate post I have ever seen.

    Yep Vinny, ollldddd thread.

But, I caught lots of flounders while fishing along the gulf coast of Galveston TX.
They would be caught well on live shrimp put on a weighted line just off the bottom.
    Definitely predator feeders.

During this time of the year surf is pretty good in Galveston aND water clears up a lil enough to see the bottome. When I sit on my board you can see flounders flying into the gulf.
