Take a razor blade or sharp knife and scissors , cut a section out of the main body and set it on a rock or wedge it into a slit or gap in the rock work or lay the coral cutting into a bowl filled with rock rubble in the aquarium it will attach to the rubble chunk of its choice .

I've also heard that you can cut maybe a one inch strip around whole perimeter of it and then cut that ring into pcs, but I've never done that.

when we fragged my buddy's finger leather, I cut a small piece of toothpick, and stuck it in the base. Put a dab of glue on the toothpick to hold it in place til it attaches. Then I just stuck the other end of the toothpick in the rock. Within 2 days it was attached. It started as a 1/2" tall single finger, and took about 8 months to turn into this....

Another thing you can do is just cut it (as stated) with a sharp knife. Try to cut it with one single slice and avoid a sawing motion. You can place it on a piece of rock, cover it with bridal veil and use an elastic at the base to hold the veil in place. Within a couple of days it will attach, and you can remove the veil.

Jacwil, yes you can do that too if the leather has a good rim. I usually just cut pieces off of the perimeter of mine instead of cutting into it like a pie. That way it heals faster and doesn't look like its been cut.

Then I place the frags in a tank with coarse aragonite, once they've attached to some of it I glue them down to frag tiles. I used to use the rubberband method, but at least 50% or more of the frags would get cut by the rubberband and float off.

Letting the frags attach to aragonite and then gluing them is the fastest/most effective way I've found to aquaculture corals like leathers and ricordia.

have you ever tried the bridal veil method? That way there's just a mesh holding them down to the rock, and the elastic is holding the veil at the base of the rock. The coral is never really under any pressure

Looks like you have your answer. I have had success back in the day when I was interested in fragging – I cut the head from the stalk, removed it to Tupperware container so I could sit at the table and slice it up. I cut it like a pizza pie – I took small rocks from my DT and put each piece onto a rock and covered it with pantyhose and secured that with a rubber band. After a month or so I would remove the pantyhose and the frag was attached and well on its way.
