How do I know if my Protein skimmer is working ???

    How do I know if my Protein skimmer is working ??? i have a hang over the back protein skimmer and it seems to be working to me it foams up and the stuff that comes out in the cup is a clear brown liquid is that normal?

    Then it appears to be working. IMO they are dialed in when they produce a dark brown colored liquid (Almost Chocolate milk colored) and have a sludge forming in the neck. it will be pretty rank if you disturb it.

    Mine rarely produces a prown color. It's usually a liquid and yellow to light brown.

    Depends alot on the bioload of the tank and whether you are wet skimming or dry skimming.
    Take a picture of it if you can so we can see the levels you are running.
