How do i know if my sand is dead

    reverse osmosis deionized water. well water is not good

    im guessing your well water had some nitrats or somthing in it at the time well water is very unperdictable. you said it happened in january so i bet some snow melted and there was somthing in the snow that got into your well water like animal waste or somthing.

    i ran it through one of those filter jugs that u put in your fridge first.

    if you want a successful tank RO water is a must! some people take the risk in using tap water or in your case well water. Like stated above that water is very unpredictable with nitrates, chlorine, etc.

    if the filter wasnt new then atleast a little of somthing bad got through it and then into your tank. you said you still have trouble with your levels so theres most likely still some of what killed your fish in the sand and rocks.
