I've been to 2 different stores in two different towns. One store sells live rock without any coraline on it for 7.95 a pound. The other sells it covered with coraline for 11.99 a pound. Is this a good deal? Is there a place online to get it?

12 dollars a pound is pretty steep.

Why even do live at all? You would be much better to do base. Save a lot of money too.

When you do not have that warm fuzzy…..you are being ripped off.

You will grow your own coralline as your tank matures. If you spend the money and you buy encrusted rock I would bet that you will run into troubles early on in your “tank education” and you will find all that expensive coralline covered in algae, or bleached…it’s a learning process (trust me, I am still learning – god willing I always will) let the coralline learn with you – save the money and buy base rock.

Over the years the one thing I can share with the utmost confidence is “be patient”

live rock with coraline should be around 4 dollars a pound and i agree with the above
go base and in 3 moths it will look like regular live rock with bits of coralline showing up.

thats really expensive. The best place to buy live rock IMO is craigslist. Find someone local thats getting out of the hobby and you might get it in the $1-$3.50 price range, so think of it, if you bought 50 pounds for $8 thats $400. 50 pounds for $3 is $150. but if you want to order online Ide say go to liveaquaria or marcosrocks. both good with shipping and quality.

Even base rock has seed -- did you see Jurasic Park? I think it was the fly, who was that?.....Oh, Jeff Goldblum ! -- he said, "life will find away" he was spot on my friend ! Add live sand and you have all the spores you need --- cheaper too
