How can I make my own food? Is there any phosphates in fresh food. My problem is I am constantly dealing with phosphate levels because I tend to over feed. I just cannot bring myself to feed every 2-3 days. I liike to watch em eat.

If fresh homemade food has no phosphates...I am interested in learning how to make/store food.

I would think that there are not extra phosphates in fresh food. I use fresh, NLS pellets, Nutramar Ova, frozen mysis, and Fauna Marin LPS food. The fish and corals are fed every day, and there is no phosphate issue without running GFO.
Feeding every day is not necessarily overfeeding if your nutrient export is sufficient.

How long have you been using RO water?

Been using RO DI for 4 months. No corals... Fowler at this point. I just need to know what is the best to feed. I use omega one flakes and their band of frozen cubes too.

You can buy silver-sides minnow fish and kreel shrimp at chinese food stores. Put them in the food processor and chop them up. Buy the bulk filter cleaner food and omnivore food from reefcleaners.org, mix with the fish. Add some garlic and put the food in mini cube tray to be frozen.

You can buy like 2lbs of the silver-sides fish for like $3

The stuff is cheep to make

Oh, I was thinking reef. My big fish get fed any raw seafood that is on sale, and New Life Spectrum Pellets. IMO, NLS is the best food for long term growth and health.

If you have a phosphate issue, you can run GFO. Honestly, I don't worry about phosphates in the FOWLR's. :p

It isn't that hard. Look at the back of your frozen food package and it will list, in order of amount, of everything that you are feeding. Head to the grocery store and buy said ingredients. The problem you will have is the amount of each ingredient to use. Blend everything together in RO water. Drain excess water. Find a container of your choosing (The Container Store has several nice containers with mini compartments the perfect size for a fish meal and Walgreens has those pill holders that work well), cover and freeze. More than likely your current frozen food has vits/mins added to it so you will basically be without that. I wouldn't worry about it though as you are making a semi 'fresh' frozen food.

I was reading in TFH a while back of all the advantages of feeding homemade foods. It was a great read. I fed homemade foods when my 55/100 were up and running as it was worth the time and effort as I was feeding many fish. Not the case with my 14g BC.

I read the other day that there are people that use frozen carrots and broccli mixed with any sea food you want to put in it uncooked shells heads and all. I read that you can put them in the food proccesor or even the blender depending on how big of peices your fish will eat. I also read that some people use a gelatin to keep it all togeather when the put it in the ice box... Many also add garlic (i buy the stuff from the whole foods store really cheap for the amount and no addatives) and other vitamine additives for the fish too... I guess you cant really go wrong with much as long as they eat it....
