This might be a stupid question but I need to do some renovations on my sump and I'm not wanting to flood out my basement. My logic tells me to turn off return pump, then empty water out of tank until it is below the water line for overflow, then empty water in sump, un-screw plumbing on hoses in sump and viola? I think the remainder of the water in my overflow will drain into sump correct? So I need to be emptying water out of sump as quickly as it draining into sump correct?

Or am I missing a step?

    Thanks

sounds right. you shouldn't have to empty any water out of your DT though, just turn off the pump and pump water out of the sump until it stops coming out of the overflow lines.

Your sump should have been designed to accommodate the extra water in case of a power outage. If you think it will overflow, drain some water from the sump before you pull the plug, not the DT. Turn your ATO off if you have one.
