Float for a 1/2 hour, then I put a 1 inch slit in the bag below the water line and let it sit for another 1 to 2 hours then put whatever it is in....

newbie Q. If you slit the bag and there is any copper in the water from the lfs ,won't it harm your reef tank?

Put bag in water for 20 min to get temp correct. Then I add 1/4 cup of water every 15 to 20 min for about 2 hours.

I also do it the way Otty said, though after a half hour I start removing a 1/4 cup for every one I add.

I float the bag(usually when i do a water change because thats when i usually buy something new) then i open it up and pour some water into the bag and keep floating it. do this a couple more times then i just open the bag and let it float then it sinks then wait 5 mins and let whatever i got out.
