When you acclimate do you don't mix the water in the bag and the tank do you? I thought this would contaminate the teank? Can the coral be lifted above the water to take from bag to put in the tank?

Many LPS corals have a lot of tissue and they have to be GENTLY teased while still underwater to pull into their skeleton before putting them into the air. Failure to do this generally results in brown jelly disease and/or complete death of a polyp. While one generally doesn't want to touch the tissue of a polyp, 2 exceptions are goniopora and alveopora (flowerpots). You want to touch their tissue because you want to place them in the tank upside down so that air bubbles don't get stuck under their skeleton. For Catalaphylia (elegance), I drip for so long and drain off excess water that I know there is no longer any water from the supplier. I never put this particular coral in the air nor touch it.

For any other species, I don't worry if it hits air.

I've been lucky so far and haven't had any baddies. I float them in the fuge for about 1/2 hour then drip acclimate in a two gallon bucket until it is full. Then a bath in iodine. I did qt the very two first corals I bought but none since.

Well, this is not IF it's going to happen, it's WHEN it's going to happen. I know this well. So do many other people.

With that said, I do know this. No one is going to listen to me until a major problem happens. This is just like computers. People who use computers know beyond a shadown of a doubt that they should continually update their anti-virus software, make backups of important information daily, take some backups offsite, etc. However, I've worked with many small business clients over the years and I've told them what they must do. However, my experience has shown that no one ever does that UNTIL the first time their decisions have negative consequences is when they finally listen to me. Then, all of the sudden, they have specific rules for their employees and such. There's nothing like having 25 employees doing nothing because one's entire computer system is messed up.

    Whoa settle down there..
I wasn't saying it's o.k., I didn't say IF it happens.., I just made a reply to the OP's question and answered honestly how I do things. I assumed by opening with " I've been lucky so far and haven't got any baddies..." that readers would get the message that it's probably not the best way to do it. Maybe I should've omitted the last sentence.

I wasn't intending to talk to you specifically. Your post just inspired me to make an overall comment. Because I quoted you, I can see how this could easily be misinterpreted. Sorry for that.

Anyone else use this product and is it a good one?

    Thanks!

This is a good thread....lot of different methods....hopefully everyone can learn from it!!!
