Can you elaborate on "water seems more natural looking, not as sterile"?

I use them a few weeks on and off rotating throught 4-5 socks when I see particals floating around....I try not to use them for to long maybe a week at a time..It looks to me that the corals look and act better without the socks so I try not to use them that often...but when I clean them I use the washer with bleach and extra rinse then rinse in ro/di then air dry..

Well... When I was using a filter sock it seemed like there wasn't any debris in the water? I would look at high def videos of nice mature looking tanks and there would be "material"? IDK, pods, waste, inert particles in the water column.? And videos of coral reefs also. With my limited experience I can't say my tank is better off with out the sock. I believe it is. Please take my words with several grains of salt. lol I've only been doing this for a very short while.

The original post did refresh my memory on how I hated cleaning those socks every weekend lol

I don't use a filter sock in my system, I have a refuge that all my drain water goes into.. I do use one when I do any maintence that stirs up my sand though.. I'll put it over my strainer on my pump intake & polish the water for 2-3 hours.. I'll wash it with RO water & white vinegar, then rinse with RO water & let it air dry.

I do it by eye, 1/2 cup to a gal of water give or take.. won't hurt it if a strong mix, just have to rinse it a couple of times..
