How do "you" clean your skimmer?

It's skimmer cleaning time and I wanted to start a thread on how everyone goes about their ritualistic cleanin of their mucky skimmer types. Tell us your skimmer type and how you do what you do, when you do. This cold be a good opportunity to share your dirty and scummy secrets... lol

 

High pressure fire hoses and the hydrant naw, I've got a bottle brush and hot tap water. and I do that about once every six months. clean the cup and neck about once a month

 

+ one to the bottle brush. I do it in the bathtub. I clean mine about every month, as it seems to be one of the few that work better when clean

 

Lol.. oh yeah I forgot to mention how I clean it. I have an AquaC, I clean the cup and kneck at least everyweek.. it gets gunky. The skimmer every 5 months. I run it in vinegar and ro water. 1 to 4 ratio. Then I spray it out with a firehose..

 

My old tooth brushes get rinsed and used for this... I dont like toothbrushes over a month so I have to get creative how to put my old ones to use.

 

I am using the DAS EX-1 on my 90 and i must say it is a GREAT skimmer for the money!!!!

i just clean the collection cup when needed...Usually once a week and ill clean the airline hose when needed as well.

Maybe once every few months ill tear the whole thing down and really give it a good cleaning.

 

Do you use a toothbrush or a firehose?

 

i like to get the full experience and go at the collection cup with my hands in the bathroom sink when I give it a real good scrubbing ill use whatever i can to get to all the nooks and crannies. Anything from toothbrushes, bottle brushes, q-tips, etc... I also will fill it bleach and let it sit over night to get it super clean once a year at most. Then ill rinse it real well and hit it with sodium thiosulfate before hooking it back up.

 

what's that? I know what ammonium thioglycolate is

 

sodium thiosulfate neutralizes bleach. Just a precautionary measure in case i dont rinse it well enough after bleaching it.
