I have heard that this is all you can really do if not willing to QT them for fear of further stressors.

IamRit - your not being lucky IMO

You are obviously providing good conditions
you purchased healthy fish and have taken good care of them
    you probably dont over stock
you probably ensure compatibility with any new stocking you did

I agree with Steve. I let whatever happens, happen. I want strong fish with good immunity. I have lost a few, but I will not baby a fish. Everyone that has survived, got Garlic, Vitamin C (Kent marine C) and ate well. They all fought it off, and have fought it off more than once. I havent seen it again for a year.

Yes, I believe the fish compatibility, keeping my fish well fed and good husbandry keeping are the keys to my sucess.
I've seen so many writting over ick issue so I want to see if there other newer method that folks are doing to keep free of ick. I"m never too old to learn. :)

I have tried the whole QT every new fish and as soon as I would add them to the display it seems they would get ick. I would then try to catch and put back into QT causing more stress and ending in death most of the time.
After these methods were not working I then tried the reef safe meds which also seemed to cause more stress and ended the same way often times with several fish dying.
My latest venture into ick prevention has been the garlic soaked foods and once a week I also add some Selcon to the mix and it seems to be working great. I have a Purple Tang and Yellow Eye Kole Tang that both have a couple spots show up at times. A couple feedings with garlic and selcon and all traces are gone within a few days and the fish seem happier then ever.
So far I have had my current fish for about a year with no signs of ick and hopefully it stays that way.My tank is a bit over stocked but all my fish are well fed and healty which I think is the biggest key to ick prevention.

I feed small amounts often throughout the day with food soaked in garlic until I notice the ich beginning to clear up. Just keep the stress level down and keep them eating and they should be ok.
