I have a good flow in my 110g corner tank and a filter sock on my sump intake, my return pump is a rio and is rated at 800gph but my water is never crystal clear. I put a diamond goby and 2 big engineer gobies in a week ago they stirred it up but it still has not cleared.

I see tanks on here and the water is crystal clear.

Do you have a protein skimmer, activated carbon?

also is the pump pushing 800 gph at the outlet? or is it pushing 800 at the connection to the the return? If its only a 800 gph pump it's probably only putting out some thing less then 500 gph.

    Do you run carbon?
Also the goby's will keep stirring up sand but in a few weeks it will all be settled and you wont have to worry. My sleeper head goby made a mess the first few weeks now the sand he chews on it no issues just falls right to the bottom of my tank.

I do have a protein skimmer but no carbon, it mostly looks like bits floating around in my water. The pump says 800gph but I cant measure it at the outlet, like you say its probably less than that. My overflow pipe is 1" pvc and it keeps up with the pump.

is there a sponge filter between the skimmer output and the return pump?

You could be getting micro bubbles from the skimmer?

i use a way over sized filters like for example for my 14gallon tank i use marineland 200 power filter( which is made for 50 gallon tanks)

Some sumps have a bubble trap built in....however i still have a dense foam sponge sealing the 2 chambers

Carbon makes a big difference. you have a skimmer so does it look like small bubbles in the tank or small particles in the water. sometimes its tought to tell the difference but might be 2 different things.

The skimmer and return pump are in the same chamber but the skimmer does not put out any micro bubbles. My sump does not have any chambers, the water comes in from the tank into the filter sock goes under 1 piece of glass and then there is the skimmer and return pump.

I have had the tank 4 months but it was already setup when I got it. It seams as though the particles in the water are not getting pulled into the overflow, but with the pump putting out say 500gph at the outlet I thought this would be more than enough turnover for a 110g tank as well as the power head moving the water in the tank.

Is this just a downside to having a overflow and not a canister filter? I had the same problem in my 300g freshwater until and added a canister filter.
