i'm thinking that i might have to hang my light instead of mounting it on the tank. Can anybody explain how to do this in a step by step way, or have a link that explains the process?

    I have the 36 4x39 t5 tek light

thanks in advance, i think this is where this post should go

Do you live in a home with an attic; or at least a soft, "drywall" ceiling? If so, then punching holes for hangers isn't too tough. If you have a poured concrete ceiling, it's a bit tougher, but still doable.

we don't have an attic, it's more like a crawl space but my tank is on the second floor, as is the crawl space, so i don't think that would do any good. I don't know what our ceiling is, we used to have the popcorn ceiling but then my parents redid the whole house, not really sure the name of what it's called, i don't think it would be concrete though

Hmm Ill have to look when I get home but I think I have pics. I have a maristar fixture(tek with MH) and their hanging kit. It was really simple.

ok, cool. i think the problem that my parents have with hanging a light is the part about putting holes through the ceiling

Nothing a little putty and paint wont fix. Seriously though the holes really aren't to big.

There has to be rafters above your head, they had to hang the sheet rock on something. so whats above your ceiling? Any space at all.?

that's what i just told my mom. maybe once i find out how its done i can show them and they'll be like oh ok, that's not to big of a deal then. my mom also thought of hanging the light on a shelf that i have that's above the tank on the wall. which could have worked but it doesn't come out far enough to cover the entire tank
