I bought a new 4 stage spectrapure yesterday and i have an idea to set it up in my laundry room with a auto topoff system. I believe somewhere i have seen where someone took the line going to the washer and attached a "Y" adapter and used the hose attachment to feed the RO/DI unit. I have a new house and i don't have many exposed coper pipes to tap in to. I would like the setup to be in the laundry room for several reason. one being i could keep the water in the storage container @ room temperature. So if i was to hook the RO/DI up to the faucet would I experience problems with line pressure when the washer is running?

The only other place i could tap into is under the master bath sink witch is on the opposite wall of the laundry room or i could tap into the water heater cold line. This option would be a task in its self to do. I would halve to run lines to the storage container.

No idea is a bad idea. I am open for all. Please show me how you have yours set up so i can decide on how to setup mine.

You might have those pressure problems when the washer is running, depending on the volume of water it's using. I'm guessing it'll be on and off problems with pressure.

I have a garden hose outlet under the sink downstairs, which is just inside the front door, but we have a kinda special situation. We use it for the RODI and also to water our plants out front, since we don't have a hose outlet outside in the front lol.

I drag the storage container (an 18g rubbermaid) across the house to its resting spot near the tank when it's done filling, and carry it back once it needs to be filled again. It's kinda heavy, but it's not that far to move it, about 50 feet.

I have had my Spectrapure unit hooked up to the washing machine cold water faucet with a garden hose wye for years. The washer only fills a few times per load and the pressure drop is not for long. I have a laundry sink next to the washer so I mounted the unit on the wall above the sink and ran the waste to the sink. I use a 23 gallon Rubbermaid recycling can for my RO/DI storage. If you plan to automate the filling of your storage you will need an auto shutoff valve (ASOV), a 1 psi check valve and either a float valve or a solenoid and float switches like I use. I prefer the float switches as they eliminate the effects of TDS creep and give a more positive shutoff than the float valve.

you don't need copper pipes to tap into. You can tap into the cold water line for any sink in your house.

In my case, I had a room on the other side of a wall that had a sink. I drilled a hole in the wall and tapped into that cold water source. It's just a hose, no problem.

Is their a certain distance you need to stay withing on the output. I had a couple of ideas. 1 being to run the rodi to the storge container and use a auto shutoff device. and the other being to run it directly to my tank and use the auto shutoff there. i guess the container would be better then i could just use a ATO to the tank.

I don't think distance will matter in the distances we're talking about.

You never ever want to hook your RO/DI directly to your tank. That is just asking for accidents ;) You want a separate container between it and the DT for protection.

For the most part horizontal distance is not a big factor, vertical distance adds additional head so can affect your waste ratio. Plumb it how you intend to use it then check the waste ratio and trim the flow restrictor as needed.
I would never hook directly to the tank or sump, this is asking for a disaster. Always fill a ATO reservoir of some sort then fill the tank/sump from there to limit the amount of fresh water you could possibly dump in your tank and wash it out or flood.

I use the Spectrapure LLC-UPLC II ATO system for its reliability, I'd hate to flood my home and all its contents.

I ave mine under my bathroom sink. When i need RODI water i hook in to my bathroom faucet to fill my rubber trash can next to my tanks. I have a long line that goes through a couple walls indiscreetly. I used to just fill to the tanks lol.

I have mine mounted a few feet above my washing machine. I have a Y type splitter on my cold water that has individual shut off valves so I turn them off or on to use them independently. I run the drain down the drain tube for the machine. When I fill up my top off container (2.5 gallon jug) I take the drain line out of the tube and stick it in the open washing machine so I don't feel like I am wasting too much. I can then turn off the RO unit and open the washing machine line and do laundry.
