How do you guys keep your frag tanks... Colonies in the frag tank and then cut them from there, or just cut pieces from your DT and then put the frags in there?

Don't have a frag tank but will give you a bump. I see merits in both. I would say any coral that you want in your tank I would frag a piece and grow a colony in the frag tank if it is not part of the DT's system and let it become a colony. If you are growing popular coral for sale keep the colony in the frag tank.

I would be tempted to keep the colony in DT and frags in the frag tank

same situation as the other thread about seperate systems IMO

I would hate to lose everything due to a problem in one or other tank, hence running the 2 tanks on seperate systems and keeping the frags and mother colony seperate
means unless you get some real bad luck, you should always have the coral should something unfortunate happen in 1 set up or the other

I used to cut the colony in the DT and store the frags in the frag tank. But I found the Frag tank very hard to keep free of algae. So I converted it to a Refugium and just cut and sold frags without storing them. occasionally I would hang a a frag tray in the display
