    Hey all,

Just wondering how does everyone maintain their pumps and power heads/ other reef equipment to ensure everything is working correctly and lasts as long as possible?

I only take the pumps out and clean them in RODI water, clean their sponge in RODI water and give them a little scrape.

I have heard some people use vinegar? What % solution do you use for this?

Thanks guys, Im hoping to pick up a few more tips here on keeping everything clean and working effectively for years to come.

    Ryan.

I do the same as you, and if there is ever any tough buildup then i will soak it in a vinegar solution. I dont know an exact ration for that tho. i just take a 5 gallon bucket, and dump in some vinegar and then fill it with water.

I soak my pumps in pure vinegar, and rinse thoroughly afterwards.

pure vinegar for me also with wave makers/ pumps etc
it helps ensure calcium build up gets removed, coraline for example goes white and then flakes off when I swish it about in the sink once the item has come out of the vinegar

I recently poured some down the inlet for my reef octo skimmer, and then let it soak for a while and then turned the pump on, for a few seconds, and a lot of calcium build up got blown up and out through the tube - the skimmer ran like new again once I had done this ( after a good rinse out to ensure most of the vinegar had cleared the system)
