So THANK GOD i only have a 29 biocube and nothing bigger... so i am currently living in an upstairs aprt. And were going to be moving into the downstairs pretty soon... If i knew this sooner i would have waited to set up my tank.. BUT! it came as a surprise so My question is what is the safest way to move the tank down stairs, with as little stress as possible on my fish..

Can i just empty half the tank to carry it down the stairs, and take whatever loose rock work there is out, then just put it back in there immeditly when i get inside? The move its self is only down one set of stairs, and were there...

    Currently I have a

    Royal Gramma, Starry Blenny

Both which love to be in the rocks, I think they would be ok if i left them in there if i took out only the loose rock work, so i dont have any worries of crushing them.

    Any opinions? Tips? Advice?

drain 50% into a cooler or other container that you can move the live stock in. Then another 40% into a second container. Take the rock and sand and place it into a third container. Move the tank and stand. Put your rock and sand back in, then add the 40% of water, then the 50% plus livestock. Add another 10% to top off, and whala your done and you completed a water change in the process.

Personally, I would remove all rocks, 99% of the water, and all living inhabitants. Tanks are meant to hold water in a static setting. Moving a tank with water and rocks puts hard to calculate stresses on a tank in a way that it wasn't designed for. More than likely, you'd be fine. But I don't like to leave things like that to chance....even for a short move.

You will need to remove more water than that- like 3/4 or so, and take out a few rocks. Rocks and water are quite heavy, and you may damage the tank by trying to move it with too much weight. Other than that, you should be good to go.

Yes. I wouldn't disturb the sand. Just get a couple extra hands on it and move gently. :)

^^ and to add to that, I do not have a QT tank to put anything in while i wait for all of my sand to settle..

Can I just take out the rock, and leave the sand in the tank with a little bit of water?

Yea I'd leave the sand and just enough water to keep it covered up.

I like your idea lol, i'll have like 3 peoples hands on it to move it down the stairs, cause I dont have anything for my stuff to wait in while, everythings all stirred up.. Just move it very carefully and gently. The move itsself is only going to take 5 min at the most, thats what sucks!! LOL
