I realized why my hard corals are dying off, My PH test kit was bad. I now use the ReefKeeper and its 7.93! I am dosing with Kalk, but only for two days now, How do I get the Ph up? Aside from the 155, My nano, is at 7.67! I never had a Ph issue before. I think switching salts from ReefCrystals to Coral life might have done it, since there has been no other changes.
What do you think? How do you raise yours?

    Alk-8
    Cal-480
    Temp-79.0
    Phos-.5 (always has been .5)
    Nitrate-0
Did not test for mag yet.
    Salinity-1.024

    No lids/covers
    3x150 HQI, 8x 420/460 T5 actnics with moons
    55 gal sump/refuge
    9w UV sterilizer
    C-skim1200 skimmer
with the intake air line outside the stand.

What time are you taking your pH measurement. After the lights have been off all night long, it's normal for pH to drop.

The reading right now is 7.97 -930am. Yesterday at 4pm it was 7.86. Last night at 8pm it got up to 8.07 after dosing with kalk. Its all over the place. I'll post later what it is this afternoon.
I just couldn't understand why all my corals including my anenome is doing fine execpt the hard corals. Goes to show ya, check the dates on test kits!

Test before lights come on in the morning. Test again after the lights have been on for 4 or 5 hours. That will give you your daily swing. The STABILITY of the pH is more important than the actual number. If your daily swing is wide, then you'll want to use a buffer to make the swing less.

I was reading somewhere that taking the intake airline from the skimmer and running it outside helps release the Co2 in the tank, the cause of low Ph. But my thought is if you run it outside, and it takes in chemicals in the air like pesticides from lawns, smoke from fires, exhaust from cars, it would not be a good thing!
So, I just ran mine somewhere outside the stand for fresh air from the house instead.

If you have a high bioload and a newer house that is pretty much air-tight, CO2 can build up inside the house making it more difficult for the tank and skimmer to off-gas the dissolved CO2 (thereby driving down pH). However, if this isn't one of your problems, then running an airline all the way outside won't help.

I alos recently upgraded my lighting from T-5's to the Mh HQI. About a month ago. Do you think that might have something to do with it?
From what I have read, it shouldn't, but I thought I'd ask anyway cuz a stupid question is one that is never asked... :)

    No, that wouldn't affect it.
