Could I just put this in a media bag and drop it in my Skimmer?

    +1 for carbon

I can not comment on purigen as I never used it before but it is something I will look into thats for sure.

also if you have a skimmer you can get a media bag w/ carbon and place it over the output of the skimmer. you will be amazed what you will catch in there also. I do this but for Ozone. and it catches alot of detris

well I can in my HOB Deltec as it has a chamber for chemical media like carbon or GFO

what skimmer are you running? if it does not interfere with the normal operation of the skimmer ( gets in the way of bubble production) then yes

I have a little bag of carbon with some phosphate remover in it, I think it's called chemi-pure. It's really expensive @ $17 a jar, and it's recommended to be changed every 6 months or so.

Aside from that, I have a fluval filter running aside from my sump. I use the regular blue/white filter padding in the balls box in the sump with a thick layer of the white filter floss, the fluval I have all the chambers using gradually increasing pads of the filter floss.

My water is always crystal clear. I probably won't deviate from this method.... EVAR!

hey everyone i just wanted to thank you for all of your suggestions about carbon use. After 2 days of use, my water already has that "is there any water in here" effect. Clear water suits my tank very nicely ;) It makes it look so much more mature and just all around nice!!! Thank you very much i really appreciate it

Yup, so far chemi-pure carbon works great in my tank.
