I'm setting up a new 40 breeder and I'm building a stand for it. The skeleton is pretty much built just need to skin and trim it. It's tall, 45" tall. Perfect for standing and looking into it but will I really be standing and looking into my tank all the time? hmmm

I can still cut it down in height with 4 simple cuts taking all of about 5 minutes. I'm really wanting to get this right as 400+ lbs of tank isn't moved very easily

So how do you guys spend your time watching your tanks? Do you have a special chair, can you see it from the couch in the living room, do you just stand and drool? What's you method of escaping into your own private piece of ocean?

    I stand/sit, I think the 36" stand is perfect for my 40B (I'm 5' 9").

My cabinet is only 30 inches, which is actually a little low even for the 29H for standing directly in front of it. However, it's perfect for viewing from the couch.

I think 36" generally makes a good viewing height - not too high from the couch and not too low while standing. It seems most manufactured aquarium stands are just 30".

Although i've made a special chair to view my tank, when i sit in it i'm usually on this board or searching other info and occasionally looking up. When i look at the tank i'm usually standing and moving around it, putting my nose to the glass to see something new or inspecting the condition of something.
Truth be told, lately i'm looking at the sump more than the tank . . . but i hope that will change once my tank matures and i settle on the final configuration of the filtration.

I watch the tank with my eyes :)

Honestly I have my tank around the 32-36" height and right behind my computer so whenever I need a break I can turn around and have a nice view (once it's up and running)

Thanks all...I just cut it down to 36" and think it's just about perfect. I can see it just perfect sitting in a chair and even though it's about 20' away I can see into it nicely from the couch too.
