How does an RO/DI unit work?

I got the faucet adapter with mine and just hook it up when i use it and put it away after,but you'll just want to add with top offs and water changes,don't change it all or even most at once,but you'll work your nitrates down and the algae going away is a long slow process,i'm going through the same right now.The age of your tank and the maturing of it will also be big factors in the algae outbreak your having,just stay persistant at it and continue reading algae threads,it's helped me alot.Also,the ro unit alone will not fix your algae trouble,but thats the best first step towards correcting it.Reducing feeding,replacing old bulbs,exporting of nutrients and removing phosphates are all critical to starving it out,sometimes it's just stubborn-my tank is a little over 4 months old,it's not my first reef,but it is the worst algae i've ever had,and i've used ro water from the start,brand new lights,whole new tank period,it can make you pull your hair out and your patience run thin.Just don't give up with it,manual removal and persistance will pay off eventually.

 

I've made the mistake of buying an RO only unit back in the day. When I could have bought the spectrapure for the same amount of money. I regret this call every now and then, but even RO only works much better than tap. I haven't had any algae outbreak since I've used this water.
