Found this guy on craigslist for a great price and might be making the 1 hour + drive to go get him on sunday. Is that line under the dorsal normal? my yellow tang gets that at night, but its along his spine. Just looking for a general consensus before I go all the way there.

Another concern is the 2 spots in front and behind the eyes. I have 2 pictures from this angle and the spots are there in both, so its not something on the glass.

That could be a flaw in the photo. If not I'd pass on it. He doesn't look that good to me, you could be inviting trouble.

Like I said, I have 2 pics from this profile, both with those spots. Could this be HLLE, or just night time colors as he just took and sent me the pics.

If that is how the fish normally looks, I would pass.

I would say pass on it. Sailfins are beautiful fish IMO and I wouldn't get one if there was something that I was questioning myself about. You may want one now, but I would save your money and buy one that you're 100% about.

All i'm saying is these pics were taken at around 10:30pm, so his lights were off. He turned them on and got me these pics. I would love to hear from someone with first hand experience with a sailfin if this is normal coloration for just after lights on, or if this is a problem. I'll get him to take another pic or 2 tomorrow after the lights have been on for a couple hours just to verify.

I cant be 100% sure on this fish until I find out exactly what I'm looking at.

I would ask him about it, and see what he says?

My supplier has yet to get mine delivered, so I have no actual experience with sailfin. I know my purple doesn't have that.

I would note that it does seem to follow the curve of the body, so it isn't scaring.

my yellow tang looks really weird at night. it gets the bright white stripes and around the stripes gets brown. during the day it's fine.
you could ask for new pics during the day or even better, at feeding time.
