We live very close to Lake Michigan, which shortens our growing season. That and the large number of deer that think our garden is a buffet, prompted us to put up a greenhouse this year. It's my wife's hobby, she does all of the gardening herself. It was a lot of work digging the foundation, assembling the greenhouse, the raised beds and the gravel paths, but it was well worth the effort. It's 10' x 13' with the thicker polycarbonate panels. By code, the largest structure that we can have in our city.

I can't list everything she grows, but there are large plum tomatoes for canning, many types of peppers, lettuce, herbs, cukes, watermelon, grapes for jelly, raspberry's, potatoes, carrots, mint for mojito's, and she even has a lime tree. I'm sure I missed a lot, but you get the point.

She also has an orchid collection with I don't know how many orchids. I think over 60. I have to go to her orchid swaps, and she has to go to my frag swaps.

She put in a solar fan, and a solar water pump for her mini water feature. The greenhouse itself has four roof vents, two that open and close automatically. There are two mantis egg cases that were hatched for pest protection. The little buggers are running around everywhere, and growing fast.

For the first year of the project, it has really come a long way.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    LG and Jerry,

    VERY impressive in my book.

Not too suprising since you both have beautiful tanks. I consider that gardening of a different source.

    Fantastic gardens, I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh...I don't know about year round. WI stands for Wisconsin, not West Indies. :p

Thanks much, Cheryl, although my wife deserves all of the credit. I could see having a much larger greenhouse to grow more of our own food, but we would have to move a little more into the country. Even though we have had an extremely dry season, we've had ripe tomatoes for three weeks now. The greenhouse has worked out much better than we thought it would.

I built one this year 16' x 22'. Chicken wire 3 feet high and dug into the ground 16".
Those wabbits won't be getting in!

    21 Tomato plants!
Peppers, few hot pepper plants, a row of different types of lettuce, beans, peas, cukes, basil, dill.
Everything is growing great, it's taken a lot of water with all the 90+ degree days, (weeks actually!) here.

I wanted to do a garden this year...moved towns though instead and looked for a job before I start college.

When I have an apartment in a year or two I'd like to do a good size garden...tomatoes, bell/banana/chili peppers, lettuce, zucchini, yellow squash, peas, herbs. Maybe some watermelon and strawberries... Hippie dippie garden with sunflowers and wildflowers throughout the perimeter of the yard. :p :)

    Sweet greenhouse.

    Nice job too, FB.

About 3 years ago when we lived out in the country (few miles from town) we had 2 rows of garden...4' x 30' each. It was mainly tomatoes, peppers, herbs. Some years we did beans, but living next to chemical filled farm fields made this difficult.

Yeah, the peppers are just about ready. Been picking lettuce, cukes, peas and basil for a while! Tons of toms but all still green, it's gonna be nuts when they turn soon!

    You'll get there guy.
We eat a ton of zucchini and squash but I opted not to put them in this year as 1 plant alone can dominate a 4'x4' area... :( They are plentiful and cheap locally. I wanted a ton to tomatoes to eat and can. BLTs!
