I was just wondering about how fast peoples water evaporates.. Ours seems to evaporate pretty fast.. We are topping off our tank 1/2gal every two days :-/.. Our tank is only 26gal.. I know that humidity has something to do with the evaporation rate and where I live in eastern Washington state our humidity is about 40% in the winter... It just seems like all we do is top off our tank..lol.. So what is your rate...??

    it will swing with temp.

It has alot to do with your room temp to your water temp as well as if you run a glass top or not.

What is your room temp to tank temp?

Where do you live and do you run a top?

    Edit:

I put in about 3 gallons every week

Our room temp is 72, tank temps 78. Of course since it's winter it's very dry out so we're topping off more. I have two 75gal tanks and I put about 1.5 gal every day in each tank.

Our room temp is about 69-70 and our tank is 78.. We live in Ellensburg, WA.. It is close to Yakima, WA or I suppose close to Spokane.. Those are just some towns that some people may know of other than Seattle because Seattle is on the other side of the Mts... diffrent type of climat.. We do not have a top on our tank.. its open to the world :)

I live in Seattle, where it's pretty humid even in the winter. I keep the room at about 68, and my tank at 78, with an open top on a 60 gallon system. I go through about 5 gallons of top off water every week, so I guess that's about....0.71 gallons per day.

Heh! My friend. This is far more complicated phenomenon. On top of what you pointed out add:
    - the surface area of the base of your tank
    - distortions of the water surface

Try living in the high desert. I lose about 2 gallons during the winter, 3-4 gallons during the summer, per day. Also the salt creep gets so bad from losing water so quickly, I do have to occasionally mix in salt with the top-off water

Wow.. maybe ours is not so bad after all.. In the summer we top off about 1gal to 1.5 gal a day.. Our salt creep is pretty bad in the summer but nothing like yours.. This is a pretty interesting thread I started.. :)

I top off my sump with 6 gallons every other day. So about 3 gallons a day. My RO unit is almost always on! Not really but it seems like it.
